Being a successful leader in any field is essential for keeping a company running smoothly. Here are just a few of the types of leadership styles:
- Democratic. When a leader is democratic in their approach, they often call upon all employees for the utilization of ideas. These ideas can usually be implemented rather easily into a business approach. In other words, democratic leaders draw upon the eclectic reservoir of knowledge in each department to create a successful business plan, providing employees the opportunity to express their vision, goals, and ideas for the company. This may help provide a creative output for employees, and may also help employees feel as though they are being heard and valued.
- Commanding. The commanding leadership role can be useful in some circumstances; however, the use of this leadership style is often an ineffective leadership approach and is slowly dwindling in today’s workplace. Placing demands on employees is sometimes necessary, especially in situations where certain projects have crucial deadlines. In that sense, affirmative, calm commands should be made to meet project goals in a timely, efficient manner. Constant and irrational demands, however, may have a reverse effect, creating an inefficient and unmotivated work environment.
- Visionary. The visionary leadership style involves the use of the imagination, giving employees the freedom to ask, “What if?” In this circumstance, employers can discover new and exciting avenues through which their company can contribute, develop, and revolutionize the market with effective, calculated actions.
Each leadership type doesn’t exclude the other; in fact, most great leaders blend different types of leadership styles in order to meet the demands of a certain business situation. Finding one that fits one’s personality as an employer does help, but it should be noted that a combination of leadership skills can also drive a successful, motivated team of employees.
